Casting Call for Short Film “Meeting a Monster” [Atlanta, GA] #casting

Posted November 4, 2017

PLOT SUMMARY: Meeting a Monster is a short virtual reality film exploring the mind of a former white supremacist named Angela King. The film is set in the early ‘90s in a small rural town. The film follows Angela, a pudgy, awkward teenager who is trying to find her place in a town where she doesn’t truly fit in. Living in a challenging home environment and enduring a relentless stream of bullying, Angela eventually joins a group of young punks involved in the white power movement, giving her a sense of power she has never felt before. Through the VR experience, the viewer watches Angela rise and fall in the movement and eventually, her decision to ultimately leave the movement. After her departure, the viewer is left wondering if individuals have the capacity to change and if life truly is possible after hate. The film is based on real-life interviews with Angela King, a former white supremacist who is currently working with the organization Life After Hate, using her voice to get people out of the movement. The film will blend documentary interviews of Angela King with narrative dramatizations by actors. The final product will be viewed as a 360-video virtual reality experience, providing a total immersive environment for the viewer which will be pitched to Sundance, Tribeca, Sheffield Doc Fest and other film festivals focused on new media. The film is supported by Oculus’ VR for Good program.

Big Island Documentary “Aloha From Lavaland” to Premiere at Hawaii International Film Festival #filmpremiere

Big Island Documentary “Aloha From Lavaland” to Premiere at Hawaii International Film Festival

Pahoa, Hawaii–Hawaiian Anthropological documentary Aloha From Lavaland is set to premiere on April 7 at the Hawaii International Film Festival. Produced by three Big Island-based production companies, the film follows the aftermath of the 2014 eruption of Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano, which sent a flow of lava directly toward the center of Pahoa, a small rural town on the Big Island of Hawai’i. Hard to predict and impossible to stop, the flow threatened to cut off the town’s only access road, leaving the residents of this remote community to rely heavily on one another as they prepare for possible isolation.

Produced in conjunction by Gift Culture Media, Larkin Pictures and Pure Mother Love, this 52 minute documentary explores an inner community perspective of the lava flow, following residents as they ask and answer important questions about community, sustainability, harmony, and what it really means to live in such an unpredictable paradise.

In addition to street interviews and news coverage, the documentary follows a local Hawaiian kumu (healer), a sustainability expert and the leader of a sovereign Hawaiian community over a period of seven months as they attempt to prepare for the unpreparable.

“Puna is unlike any place I’ve ever lived,” says co-director Suzenne Seradwyn, who has created films in Los Angeles, New Mexico and Hawaii. “The people here have different values because of the natural elements at play, and the rich cultural history surrounding those elements. There is a very important message to share about what happens when you allow yourself to trust these elements.”

“This film is important for anyone living in a state of change, whether it be due to external elements or an internal shift,” says the film’s co-director, Phillips Payson. “Part of what this film explores is how one’s attitude toward change can make all the difference.” Before moving to the Big Island, Payson worked in the film industry in New York and Los Angeles. This is his fourth film.

The film will premiere at the Hawaii International Film Festival at the Dole Cannery on Thursday, April 7 at 6:15pm.

Casting for MILITARY VETERAN #casting

Casting for MILITARY VETERAN

Capturing the attention of actor Michael K. Williams after seeing a clip from the film; “Snow On Tha Bluff” has since burst onto the found-footage scene. Williams signed on as Executive Producer, pushing the acclaimed crime-drama to the mainstream. The film was picked up by Suzanne Blech’s company, Screen Media Films, in early 2012. Now the creators of “Snow On Tha Bluff”, Director Damon Russell and Producer Chris Knittel, are casting for their next lead.

Searching for a Military Veteran, the reality duo are seeking to blend a story around the experience of re-adjusting to life at home. Exploring the effects of combat trauma, this new film looks to intimately explore a human psyche, torn by the longest running war in U.S. history. Having already blurred the controversial lines of reality with “Snow On Tha Bluff”, this new unscripted military drama is expected to begin production January 2013.

What Russell and Knittel are looking for:

Looking for charismatic, intelligent, and outspoken returning military veterans to appear in a upcoming film. Age, race and gender are unimportant, but you must have served a tour in either Iraq or Afghanistan to apply.

Also looking for rural, roughneck country types. If you’ve grown up in the South, lived in rural areas all your life, and have an interesting personality, we are looking for you.

The film will be mostly documentary with a dash of embellishment. We want to explore how you’ve changed as a person after the war and what life is like for you now that you have returned. We will interweave the elements of your real life with current events and loosely scripted scenes.

If you are interested please send the following this e-mail address fuzzylogic0101@gmail.com :

– A brief description of yourself

– A few pictures or links to online videos of yourself.

– Your Age, location, etc.

– A quick description of where you served, some of your experiences and what it is you want to say to the world.

– If your applying for the veteran role, put “veteran” in subject line. If your applying for the “country type” role, put “country” in subject line.

All info will be kept confidential.
