The story goes on to follow how Hugo and his grandson manage to heal their wounded past.

CASTING THESE ROLES:

Hugo:
Man in his 60s-70s
He lost his wife a year ago and is now all alone looking for something to live for. Has to be able to have real, intimate conversations with his wife’s grave and picture. Doesn’t necessary have to be a quiet man, but he is usually in a somber mood. His wife was his life, and he still talks to her every day as if she’s still here.

Eric:
17-26
Hugo’s grandson. Joined the military after high school (so think buzz cut). Comes back after a tour and gets in with the wrong crowd. Doesn’t yet want to tell his grandpa of his return, but still loves him. Tough kid with a good heart.

Janet:
Woman in her 60s-70s.
She is Hugo’s deceased wife. The woman he could not live without. She has a non-speaking role, but is the center of the main character’s focus. She appears in deem sequence with Hugo and in photos of the past.

Eric’s friends:
Two boys around 17-25.
“Punk types.” Not the kind of kids you want your son to hang out with.

Casting Call for Short Film “Six Degrees” [Miami, FL] #casting

Posted May 13, 2013

PROJECT TITLE: Six Degrees
CLASSIFICATION: Independent
STATUS: Non-Union
CATEGORY: Short Film
FORMAT: HD
DISTRIBUTION: Festival circuit
PRODUCERS: Marlene Taborda, Annalis Garrido
WRITER: William Graydon
DIRECTOR: William Graydon
PRODUCTION COMPANY: Filthy Few Films
PRODUCTION COMPANY WEBSITE: filthyfewfilms.com
SHOOTING SCHEDULE: Late June 2013
SHOOTING LOCATION: Miami, FL

SYNOPSIS:

If guns could talk. What kind of tales would they tell? Like people, guns are dealt their cards at inception. Their scripts have been written the minute the scolding hot iron is shaped and machined. This story will act as the witness for a stolen pistol. From a small time gun runner, to a young guy trying to earn his stripes, a gang banger who lives recklessly and understands the value a gun can have in the hood. Six degrees was influenced by End Of Watch, Crash, and Lord Of War. The perspective for six degrees is to be the pistol, to see what the pistol sees, feel what the pistol feels.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWNS:

Slim: An educated 30 something year old white male with a son and wife. Growing up around less educated hustlers he quickly picked up the game. Knows he is not invincible and plans to stop selling guns once he has enough to provide for his family. Always has his wits about him and rarely shows remorse but deep down he knows that what he is doing is wrong and may ultimately come back to haunt him. Has his reservations and plays a lot close to the chest but confines in Ivan like a brother.

Ivan: A loyal and quiet confidant. Has known Slim for a couple of years now and never questions his actions or motives. Works a 9-5 but not much else is known about him. (He may or may not be a cop)

Mike: A “kid” in his mid 20’s who was born in to wealth but grew up wanting to be a gangster more than anything. His reasons were less about being cool and more about loyalty. He wanted a “family” who had his back no matter what. Never received any attention at home so he went to the streets looking for it. Went to private school but spent most of his time at a nearby public school trying to earn his stripes. No one has ever really taken him seriously and He’s the type that feels as if a gun can and will change that.

Gangster : Like Mike this young man is yearning to be loved but finds it in the wrong places. He is the pistol. He knows that he’ll die at a young age or end up in jail but that no longer bothers him. He’s cold hearted and fears no man. He feels the world has turned its back on him and vise verse. Survival of the fittest.
