Molly (Female, 17):
After discovering that she is Jewish, Molly sets out to learn about her religious roots as a way of understanding her absent father. When she meets Rabbi Ben Tzion and later Rabbi Lazazel, she finds herself allured by this ancient religion and resolves to learning about the religion so she can reconnect with her father.
Rachel (Female, 17):
Rachel, an anxious and quirky girl, is a true, innocent believer, who abides by the strict rules of Orthodox Judaism. But when she decides to attend a Friday night party, she finds her dormant sexuality awakened by an unexpected kiss.
Shira (Female, 17):
Trapped inside the oppressive world of Orthodox Judaism, Shira’s only solace is found in the quiet moments when she is alone with God. But when her search for escapism devolves into a destructive opioid addiction, Shira must find a way to pull herself together if she is to survive.
Rabbi Ben Tzion (Male, late 50’s):
The once proud principle of the town’s Jewish High-School, Rabbi Ben Tzion now finds himself displaced by the young and charismatic Rabbi Lazazel. Although he appears to be a kind, and gentle man, the Rabbi is stuck in his ways, with a penchant for treating women as if they are secondary to men.
Rabbi Lazazel (Male, early 30’s):
The charismatic new principle of the town’s Jewish High-School. Rabbi Lazazel projects an effortless charm, and helps Molly learn about Judaism to reconnect her with her father.
Jessica (Female, late 30’s):
Molly’s mother. As a teenager, Jessica was scorned by her Orthodox Jewish community for becoming pregnant, and she has made it her life’s work to prevent Molly from engaging with her Jewish roots. But when her daughter seeks out religion and her father, Jessica must come to terms with Judaism again, or risk losing her daughter forever.
Dina (Female, early 30’s):
Rabbi Lazazel’s bubbly wife. Dina helps Molly learn about what it means to be a proper woman in the Orthodox Jewish world, and opens her home to Molly in her time of need.
Joshua (Male, 17):
Molly’s boyfriend. Together since grade school, Molly and Joshua are the quintessential high school couple. But as Molly becomes increasingly enchanted by Judaism, Joshua must come to terms with how he can be a part of her life when her religion rejects him for being a non-Jew.
David (Male, 17):
David projects himself as the idle Jewish boy, but behind closed doors he’s not as innocent as he presents himself to be.
Saul (Male, 17):
As the only Black student at the Jewish High-School, Saul is constantly taunted because of his race. But when Rabbi Lazazel encourages him to pursue his hopes of becoming a Rabbi, Saul finds himself trapped between reaching for his dreams and following his romantic interests.
Moshe (Male, late 30’s):
Moshe is Molly’s estranged father.
