PLOT SUMMARY: True Freshman is the story of Jimmy Edwards, a small town football star who thinks he knows exactly where his future is going. When Jimmy makes a mistake that costs him his chance to play college football he realizes how much he has to learn about God’s plan for his life.

18 to 22 years old, Black/African American male. The superstar running back of a small town high school football team. Cocky and proud, when he gets caught taking a bribe during college recruitment, Jimmy discovers he has a lot to learn about life, love, and faith. Must have actual experience playing football. LEAD
45 to 55 years old, Black/African American male. Jimmy’s father. A man of quiet strength and deep faith, humbled by current circumstances but determined to keep his family afloat.
45 to 55 years old, Black/African American female. Jimmy’s mother, mechanic at the local car dealership. A beautiful but no nonsense woman who works hard and doesn’t mind getting her hands dirty under the hood of a car. She loves her family deeply, even when she is disappointed by Jimmy’s mistakes.
18 to 22 years old, Black/African American male. Quarterback and Jimmy’s best friend. Louis expects great things for himself but is easily led astray by anger and disappointments. Must have actual experience playing football.
35 to 45 years old, Caucasian male. Head Coach of the high school football team. Undeniably “cool” and still in great physical shape, he rides a Harley and looks like a bad boy rock star but his surface obscures a family man of strong integrity.
50 to 55 years old, Caucasian male. Owner of the local car dealership where Jimmy’s mom works as a mechanic. James is a man totally in control of his world and everyone in it. The biggest booster of the high school football team, church elder, and prominent “pillar of the community”, he seems like an ideal mentor for Jimmy but appearances are deceiving.
40 to 50 years old, Caucasian female. A beautiful and intelligent woman devoted to maintaining the appearance of her picture perfect life and family while also juggling her own career as a lawyer. She knew exactly what she was getting when she married James.

35 to 40 years old, male. Police Captain. A man who loves his donuts and isn’t worried about the jokes. Also loves his job and his town but doesn’t care about football.
20 to 25 years old, male. Police Officer. Played for the Pirates himself in high school and is still a rabid fan of his old team. He resents Jimmy and gives him a hard time before accepting him. A bit hot tempered and sarcastic.
25 to 30 years old, Caucasian female. Recruiter for Crimson College. A redhead Southern beauty with smoldering pageant queen looks and a dominating presence. The proverbial femme fatale who leads good men into bad decisions.
45 to 55 years old, Caucasian male. A man whose face bears the evidence of years of ugly work and bad conscience. A dead eyed shark in a slick suit.
25 to 35 years old, male. More muscles than brains. Covered in tattoos and attitude but without much to back it up. A small time thug who turns out to be the key to uncovering a much bigger problem.
50 to 55 years old, female. Small town Police Chief. Mother of Officer Leslie Palmer and widow of former sheriff Ronald Palmer. A woman with a passion for justice and the strength to carry the burdens of a hard job and a profound loss.
45 to 55 years old, male. Tabatha’s husband and Leslie’s father. County Sheriff until his murder during a routine traffic stop. He is the inspiration for Leslie joining the police force.
20 to 25 years old, female. Youngest officer on the force and still trying to prove herself. Doesn’t look like the law enforcement “type” but is proud to wear the uniform and follow in her parents’ footsteps. She is a guiding light in Jimmy’s darkest hour but she carries a deep pain and anger underneath her sunny attitude. LEAD
20 to 25 years old, female. Young, reckless, and desperate. She tries to rob the local diner with her boyfriend but they are stopped by Jimmy. “Alternative” and interesting types encouraged!
