PLOT SUMMARY: “Veins” is a powerful Chicago story that deals with marginalized citizens and abuse of power. During a typical rideshare experience, the driver discovers his passenger is a transgender acquaintance from high school who is trying to escape from the dark world of prostitution. Later, he is threatened by her pimp, a crooked cop, into betraying her location resulting in a difficult choice for the driver.

Roger – African-American, male, age 31-35 – A native Chicagoan Uber driver, Roger is quiet, stoic, cynical and isolated, but has a sense of humor that surfaces only when he lets his guard down. Must possess valid driver’s license.
Kim – Latina, transgender identifies female, age 28-32 – A survivor who is struggling to get out of prostitution, where she finds herself after a series of negative decisions. Brash, confident, and worldly, but not so much that she can’t be traumatized.
Cop – White, male, age 51-55 – A corrupt cop who moonlights as a pimp. A natural born storyteller who hides a slithery, treacherous interior behind an almost Midwestern persona. He exudes violence, but uses it as little as possible, as though he’s above such tactics.
