UPDATED Crew Call for Short Film “10-71 Shots Fired” [Los Angeles, CA] #filmcrew #casting

Posted May 2, 2016: reposted with updates

LOGLINE: Things go majorly wrong at a local inner city bodega when a shoplifting prank takes a wrong turn and a 10 year old boy is shot and killed. A true to life story of two brothers growing up in the inner city.

SYNOPSIS: Wes (10), has always looked up to his older brother Dre (13) and has always wanted to be included in his older brother’s group of friends. As a playful prank to try and deter his younger brother from bad influences, Dre tries to coerce Wes into stealing some sodas and snacks at the local bodega, not unlike a scene in one of their video games, thinking that Wes will be too scared to accept. Without fully understanding the possible consequences, Dre ups the ante by convincing Wes to use a toy gun to hold up the store owner. Wes, not wanting to look like a little kid, doesn’t give in and soon both boys find themselves at the bodega. They enter the store as their nerves start to get unhinged. Things turn terribly wrong and the simple prank turns deadly when the bodega owner accidentally shoots and kills Wes thinking that the toy gun was real.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
“Shots Fired” (working title) is a film about inner city children and gun violence. It’s a representation of an actual incidence that took place 15 years ago in South Central Los Angeles and of similar incidences occurring daily throughout our country.

We hear about gun violence in the news every day. So much so that we have become numb to its effects. We also see gun violence in the movies but it usually shows its effects on the main characters and rarely shows collateral damage and any long term consequence to the bystanders in the scene. Our tragic story of how a young African American boy is accidentally shot and killed, brings to light the truth of how dangerous guns are and the reality of what could actually happen. This is just one small step in many but we believe it’s a very important step.

Our goal is to produce a quality short film that we can enter in film festivals and raise awareness to the realities of gun violence. We plan to further extend the short script into a full feature length film that not only depicts the tragic incident but the consequences and suffering the family and friends have to go through in its aftermath.
