Posted April 13, 2016: reposted with updates

LOGLINE: Things go majorly wrong at a local bodega when a shoplifting prank takes a wrong turn and a 10 year old boy is shot and killed.

SYNOPSIS: Wes (10), has always looked up to his older brother Dre (13) and has always wanted to be included in his older brother’s group of friends. As a playful prank to try and deter his younger brother from bad influences, Dre tries to coerce Wes into stealing some sodas and snacks at the local bodega not unlike a scene in one of their video games. Without fully understanding the possible consequences, Dre ups the ante by convincing Wes to use a toy gun to hold up the store owner. Wes, not wanting to look like a little kid doesn’t give in and soon both boys find themselves at the bodega. They enter the store as their nerves start to get unhinged. Things turn terribly wrong and the simple prank turns deadly when the bodega owner accidentally shoots and kills Wes thinking that the toy gun was real.

SEEKING TALENT
DRE
12-year old African-American boy – Dre was born at Martin Luther King Jr. Hospital near Watts. He was mostly raised by his mother and has no idea who his father really is. He has gotten this far mostly by keeping his head in the books and being the “nice boy” but when he hangs around his group of friends he tends to want to break character and act tough. It’s possible that he just wants to fit in or maybe he just doesn’t want to get beat up but he is a natural leader and he gets respect from the rest of the kids in the neighborhood, even the psycho bully Ty. He does well in school and wants to be a doctor or a basketball player. He loves his brother but is torn between his friend’s respect and hanging with Wes (his brother). He is protective of Wes and would never do anything that would put him in harm’s way. He wears a lot of Old Navy and Ross due to his family’s lack of money but he does save his allowance and he does odd jobs around the neighborhood which saved him enough to buy his Jordan’s and FUBU which he wears proudly whenever possible.

SEAN
11-year old African-American boy – Sean is another neighborhood boy who hangs around with the rest of the group. More of a follower, he rarely has his own opinion but will occasionally make comments that he knows won’t be contested. He sticks close to Ty, like pilot fish to a shark, for protection. He will always have Ty’s back again more out of fear than respect. Sean wears outfits similar to Ty’s.

OLD LADY
60 to 80-year old African American woman – Grandma loves her TV. From the second she gets up to the time she goes to bed (which is usually falling asleep watching TV) she is glued to the TV. She loves the reality shows and the easier game shows. Slightly on the feisty side she’s not afraid to voice her opinion, which is too often. She has gout and arthritis which makes it difficult for her to get up or walk around. Her biggest nemesis’s are the two younger children mostly because they disrupt her TV viewing time. She is mostly in her nightgown all day.

GIRL/BOY
4 to 6-year-old African-American children (twins) – These are your typical young, hyper, unattended children. Very active and loads of energy, it seems like they live on sugar (which they probably do). They seldom listen to their mother not necessarily out of disrespect but more because the mother is too busy to be stricter with them but they seem to be able to take care of themselves. Due to their age difference or possibly because they have different fathers, they are not close with Dre or Wes. They tend to run around the house doing their own thing usually annoying their grandmother. When mom puts her foot down. They do listen and behave. They wear whatever is on sale anywhere or some relatives hand-me-downs.
