THE READ (the program) is a half-hour video series showcasing talented writers and actors. A script has been selected for “The Read” titled “Baskets to Jade.” The program is loosely based on a table read, giving the participants a platform where to explore and develop the script while exercising and refining both writing and acting skills.

GRACE NICHOLSON – Any ethnicity. Female, 45 years old, 5’2″, waist thickening, plain looking, good carriage as she is an independent woman. She has just made a momentous decision and is not prepared for Carroll’s reaction, as he is her best friend and advisor who has been with her since her arrival to Pasadena.
CARROLL HARTMAN — Any ethnicity. Male, early 60’s and looks it. 6 feet tall and slender, plain-looking. He is protective and very fond of Grace, but she is the one who makes the decisions. He will always tell her the truth, but adheres to what her decision is. This time he isn’t handling her decision well.

The program is being videotaped at a non-profit educational tv studio facility, there is no pay, but we hope you find this creative opportunity “a must.”
“Baskets to Jade” is a biographical story about Grace Nicholson who came from Philadelphia to Pasadena at age 24 in 1901. Carroll Shepard Hartman was an old family friend who took her under his wing when she arrived. She became a successful businesswoman, allowing her to build the now-Pacific Asia Art Museum. The story focuses on a moment in her life that was crucial to her next step in her business and personal life.
