A man’s repressed memory creates a doppelganger that threatens his life and all those close to him.
GENRE: Psychological horror
The “Persistence of Memory” short is a scene adapted from a larger feature film screenplay of the same name. The scene is a chase sequence on foot between the central character (Armando) and the doppelganger that haunts his thoughts.
Armando – Central character. Late 30s to early 40s. Armando is handsome but he is not “a pretty boy”. He is handsome in a rugged kind of way with some weathered features, well-built, and perhaps a bit of scruff to the appearance.
The character has a cultural background of Latino and Native American, but he may or may not have an accent; additionally, casting is open to all ethnicities. Armando was a child prodigy; he was gifted as a painter and a Mensa member. His “psychological break with reality” marked the beginnings of his de-evolution and he struggles everyday to fight the voices in his head and visions that have invaded his life.
It is important for the actor to grasp the mental state of this character, and to be able to portray real emotions on camera. The actor in the role of Armando is playing a man haunted by a force that may or may not be real, in terms of how he perceives what is happening to him. Think Carl Jung’s psychology of the Shadow that comprises the darkness and the unknown.
