Nina is a 19 year old Asian American girl Who lives with her boyfriend, Trevor (21) in New York City. Her boyfriend recently lost his younger brother and Nina moved in to take care of him. He became severely depressed and turn a pill-like drug called “HAN” to numb his pain. He eventually overdoses and dies in front of Nina, leaving her heartbroken. Months later, Nina’s best friend called Beth takes her out to lunch to make sure Nina was feeling better. Nina did not move on from Trevor’s death which caused her not take care of her own body. She faints on the cafe floor and is taken back to Beth’s apartment. Beth leaves Nina alone to rest on her sofa while she goes to work and introduces her to her boyfriend Clark. Clark is a journalist and is currently writing articles about new drugs being distributed in the streets; he had some samples laying around for him to photograph later. Nina noticed one of the sample was labeled “HAN” and ask Clark about it. This was when Clark learns about Nina’s boyfriends death and her inability to eat or sleep at night. Clark gives her some sleeping medicine that he got oversea that is really strong. When Nina gets home, she takes the drug which turns out to not be sleeping pills but “HAN”. Under the drug’s affect, she starts seeing Trevor and was able to feel him next to her. She wakes up in the morning to multiple door rings and to Beth telling her that Clark gave her the wrong pills and to give back HAN. Nina refuses and got in to an argument with Beth resulting in Beth leaving her apartment crying. Nina notices there is only two pills left and decided she has to go back to Clark to get more. Nina takes the last pill and sees Trevor again, they eventually fall asleep together. The next day, Nina arrives and Beth’s place asking for Clark. Beth won’t let her in and told her that Trevor wouldn’t want her to do this to herself. Nina gives up and goes back home to take the last pill. She sees Trevor again and this time he is constantly nagging Nina to get more drugs. Noticing how little he cares for her, Nina realize the person she sees before her was not Trevor. She faces reality and lets Trevor go snapping her out of the drug.
CASTING THESE ROLES:
Nina- (19) Asian American girl. She went against her parents wishes for her to be a doctor and enter art school. This lead to her not having a good relationship with them. She has a very unique look and isn’t afraid to experiment with different hair color. Nina is very mature for her age and hangs around older people.
Trevor- (21) White male. He is tall with messy hair and looks tired all the time. He is young writer that published a good selling book at the age of 19. This lead to him having enough money to move out to New York and rent an apartment. He is very close to him family, especially his younger brother whom had died.
Beth (22) Any ethnicity . She is a young nurse intern who cares deeply for Nina. She lives with her boyfriend Clark in New York. Beth is a very caring individual who puts everyone else before herself.
Clark (25) Any ethnicity. Clark is a successful underground journalist who believes in writing about anything he wants and doesn’t care about censorship. Many people hire him because of this care free behavior. Clark fell for Beth when Clark fell in the streets and messed up his dress shirt, Beth bought him a new shirt on the spot even though they were strangers at that time.
