Casting a comedic ultra low-budget web series, filming for 2 weeks on the beautiful coast of Maine. The story follows an ambitious filmmaker, reeling from professional disappointment, who transforms her gamer geek brother into the ideal pop star to win a popular web contest and better their futures.
Actors traveling from out-of-state will be housed for up to 2 weeks in a beautiful rented house that will be home to some crew and cast.
Nisa Hartmann (Lead): Female, 20-26, Caucasian
Though of a slight build and delicate face, Nisa is a very strong, proud, and ambitious woman. Truly she is high-strung and wildly emotional, though she struggles to hide this side of herself to maintain her composure and pride. Director likes to compare this character to “a small bird, the type that anger quickly and react impulsively”
Lila Hartmann (Supporting): Female, 24-30, Caucasian
Lila is Nisa’s caring, open-hearted older sister. She has the sort of friendly, open face that cannot hide emotion. Lila is a musician, but she stopped writing after the loss of their mother. Afterwards, she focused more on the family she had left, taking care of her younger brother and sister.
Diego de Vargas (Supporting) Male, 26-32, Latino
Diego possesses a maturity he developed by acting as a parent to his young sister from a very early age. However when he meets Nisa, he often finds himself unwittingly bickering with her like schoolchildren. Underneath, the two of them are astonishingly similar – proud and ambitious yet emotionally fragile.
DreamingWaif7 (Supporting) Female, 18-35, All Ethnicities
DreamingWaif7 is a woman grasping at fame via the internet. She attached herself to the UStar competition and became one of its highest rated reviewers. In her video blogs, her persona is highly emotional and over-dramatic. It’s all about putting on a good show to Dreamy.
Antoine Barrage (Supporting) Male, 27-39, All Ethnicities
Antoine Barrage is an (in)famous gossip blogger. He is not a man to shy away from stretching (or completely fabricating) the truth when it can lead to a juicy story. To Barrage, the more disgusting the better. (Think Perez Hilton gossip vlogs – loud and obnoxious)
Producer (Supporting) Male/Female, 25-34, All Ethnicities
A stereotypical Hollywood producer – not so interested in the art, but looking to find the next gimmick where he/she sees dollar signs.
Will (Supporting) 25-34, All Ethnicities
Will is Lila’s musician ex-boyfriend. After she split up with him, he left to volunteer in South America. He is tall, attractive, and has the look of a willowy artist.
UReVuers (Day Players), 18-64, All Ethnicities
There are various speaking roles available to play video bloggers who leave video responses to the contestants of UStar. They are known as part the UReVu community, or, UReVuers. They range from 18 to 60s, all shapes and sizes.
