PROJECT TITLE: Whiplash (2014) Scene Production
CLASSIFICATION: Student
STATUS: Non-Union

FORMAT: HD
DISTRIBUTION: Public access
WRITER: Damien Chazelle
DIRECTOR: Zachary Purcell
PRODUCTION COMPANY WEBSITE: http://vimeo.com/zacharypurcell
SHOOTING SCHEDULE: February 20–March 1
SHOOTING LOCATION: Austin, Texas

SYNOPSIS:

An in-depth filmed performance of one scene from the movie Whiplash (2014). It’s a great opportunity to flesh out the characters of the script in a thorough manner–taking the focus away from creating and planning an entire production and narrowing in on an in-depth performance of one scene. It’s a powerful moment in the movie and resonates emotionally even as a stand alone piece.

NOTE: This is not an attempt to remake the movie scene as closely as possible–rather an attempt accurately and emotionally bring the characters of the script to life. Preferably you have not seen the movie or even the trailer–we want to approach this with a fresh mindset!

CHARACTER BREAKDOWNS:

[ ANDREW ][ MALE ][ AGE: 18-25 ]
Andrew is an eager and determined music student at Shaffer Music Conservatory in New York–one of the best in the world. He is willing to do whatever it takes to become the best Jazz drummer of his generation.

[ FLETCHER ][ MALE ][ AGE: 40-60 ]
An alpha male if there ever was one. Fletcher is a dominant and imposing character–unapologetic to anyone he offends on his quest to mentor the next great musician.
